Here May is not a number it is a word. So we display it in numeral as 05 or 5

Now 23 May 1994 is 23 -05 -1994.

Similarly other month's can be converted in to number.

Here we sum up the digits of date of birth as

23 + 05 +1994 => (2 + 3) + (0 + 5) + (1 + 9 + 9 + 4)
                            =  5      +   5     +     23           #here we again sum digits of number 23
                        =>     5     +   5     +   (2 + 3)  
                            = 5     +    5   +     5
                            =15     Finally sum up digits of number 15.
                         => 1 + 5
                            =   6
